Eastman Condensed Heavy Italic

Eastman Condensed Heavy Italic is a high-impact geometric sans serif typeface designed by Francesco Canovaro, with contributions from Andrea Tartarelli and Mario De Libero for the Zetafonts foundry. As a specific variant of the massive Eastman family, this version is engineered for maximum visual density and space efficiency. It retains the signature large x-height and sturdy construction of the family, but adds a sense of aggressive movement and urgency through its heavy weight and slanted posture.

This typeface was developed as a versatile workhorse for modern designers, bridging the gap between historical modernist proportions and contemporary digital needs. The Heavy Italic style is particularly effective in editorial environments and high-energy branding projects where space is at a premium but the message must be bold. Its geometric roots ensure clarity, while the condensed width allows for large-scale typography in tight layouts, making it a staple for sports branding, automotive advertising, and tech-focused visual identities.
