Gotham ExtraLight Italic

Gotham ExtraLight Italic is an integral part of the legendary Gotham family, which was originally commissioned by GQ magazine and released in 2000. Designed by Tobias Frere-Jones, the font family was inspired by the architectural signage found on New York City buildings from the mid-20th century, particularly the Port Authority Bus Terminal. This specific weight and style capture a sense of modern urbanity while maintaining a clean, geometric structure that is both authoritative and approachable.

The ExtraLight Italic variation brings a unique airiness and dynamic movement to the family's characteristically masculine and blocky forms. By stripping the weight down to its skeletal essence and adding a sophisticated slant, it provides designers with a tool for elegant editorial design and high-end branding. It remains a staple in contemporary typography, favored for its ability to look expensive, professional, and timelessly modern.
