Gotham XLight Italic

Gotham XLight Italic is a distinguished member of the Gotham typeface family, originally commissioned by GQ magazine in 2000. Designer Tobias Frere-Jones sought inspiration from the architectural lettering and "honest" signage found throughout mid-century New York City, particularly on the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The XLight Italic variant offers a delicate, ethereal quality to the geometric structure, providing a sophisticated slant that maintains the typeface's signature masculine and assertive geometry while appearing more graceful and refined.

The Gotham family achieved global recognition after being prominently featured in the 2008 Obama presidential campaign, symbolizing hope and modernism. The Extra Light Italic weight is specifically utilized by designers who require the authoritative presence of Gotham but with a lighter, more agile footprint. Its high x-height and wide apertures ensure that even in its thinnest slanted form, it remains exceptionally legible and stylish, making it a staple for premium editorial design and contemporary corporate branding.
